Challenge Matches

image77.jpg

We had a fantastic day yesterday, 2 good games, brilliant weather and lots of families supporting the players.

First up was the 1st team against the 2nd team. In a really close game, Tom Butcher's free kick gave the 1st team a 1-0 victory.

Then the U/17's took on the Club coaches. A brilliant game finished 4-4. It looked like the coaches were going to recieve a sound thrashing after going 2 goals down in the first 5 minutes but they recovered to make it 2-2 at half time. Once again the U/17's built up a 2 goal lead but were pegged back to 4-4.

Everyone then retreated to the Snooty Fox for plenty of liquid refreshment and food supplied by Mandy and staff.

Thanks to everyone who came along and contributed to a great day.

UNDER 8'S RETURN WITH TROPHY

image74.jpg

During the Bank Holiday weekend.  Oakworth Juniors Under 8's (Hornets & Wasps) took part in the Easter & Spring Football festival at Butlins, Skegness.  There were over 250 teams competing at different age groups from Under 7 to Under 14's.  The competition was over 3 days and based on a league basis.  Hornets got of to a flying start with a storming 10 - 0 victory over Pendle Forest, then added another win and an unfortunate draw (after hitting the wood work several times).  Wasps started the day against Farsley Celtic who took some lucky advantage when Goalkeeper Thomas Horn took a nasty knock and ended up losing 3-0.  They day did not get any better as a couple of unlucky defeats against well organised teams.  Sunday saw the Hornets strengthen there grip near the top of the table with a win and a narrow defeat.  The Wasps got of the mark with a fantastic win, a draw.  Then came the final day (Monday).  At the Start of the day Hornets were sitting in second, 1 point behind leaders Edenthorpe.  The day started well with Hornets bagging a 5-0 win and the top side Edenthorpe only managing a draw.  This put Hornets in top spot with one game to go.  The final Match came aginst Eckington Boys.  Knowing that a win would clinch the trophy, Colin Storton went through Labour about ten times in 30 minutes.  Finally the game kicked off and after a nail biting match, Hornets were victorious 1-0 and lifted the trophy as shown.  Wasps continued improving there form on day two and came in with 2 excellent results of a win and draw, to finish a very creditable 5th in there league.  Many thanks to all parents who took time out to attend a fantastic weekend.  Pictures a available to veiw on the gallery.

The Seniors 1st team were unable to make it a Double for the Club as they lost 3-1 in last nights Cup Final against Gargrave Res.

The team would be first to admit they did not do themselves justice, but everyone is confident we will return again stronger next season.

Seniors 2nd Team win Cup Final

The 2nd Team last night defeated Silsden White Star 6-0 in the Craven League Division 3 Cup Final at Cowling.

The lads saved their best performance of the season to totally outplay Silsden who were always on the back foot after Chris Hogg and Gary Earle put us 2 up early on. Ross Wiseman and a 2nd from Gary gave the lads a 4-0 lead at half time.

Sub Simon Oxley added a 5th and Man of the Match Ben Manning wrapped things up with a 6th in the closing minutes.

A fantastic performance from Wedgey's boys led by the inspirational veteran John Dowse.
